the gaylord? LMAO|||Texas Stadium.|||Yes. My ex boyfriend and his family went there for Thanksgiving last year... they said it was great. They have really pretty decorations, too.|||I know this is late, but you can go next year....yesterday we feasted at Cafe on the Green at the Four Seasons in Los Colinas. Although quite pricey, the food was top notch and the service was AWESOME! They served buffet style, breakfast items and dinner items, the prime rib was to die for and the turkey was flavorful and moist. I will go again!|||Yes, the Gaylord is very good. They have a champagne brunch every year, although it's very pricey.

Also check out St. Martin's Wine Bistro which has a three course feast beginning at 11:00 am and continuing on through 8 pm. They're less expensive and though they don't serve breakfast fare, I hear it's very nice.

So tomorrow I am going to see the ICE exibit at the Gaylord Texan and was wondering if there is outdoor parking because last year I went and parked in a parking garage but was sadly trapped it there. So I was hoping there is other place to park besides parking garages because I would really love to not be trapped again. So if anyone knows then please tell me. Thanks.|||Do not follow the signs to Ice parking.
Turn into the first drive to your left under the buildings.
That will put you directly under and very near the exhibit, and you can escape very fast, and not get caught in the huge crowds, and the walk is very short to and from the exhibit.

I have a interview coming up at the Gaylord Texan. ( it's a Resort and Convention center) I am applying to be a hostess at one of their restaurants. The interview is being held with a rep. from the human resources department. How should I dress for the interview?

All suggestions are welcome on how to dress, how should I do my hair, make up etc.

Thanks for the help :)|||Isn't that the ULTRA CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN RESORT? Dress like you were going to interview for Disney. Clean cut, nails polished with clear nail polish, maybe a little French manicure, small posts for earrings, a nice pressed white shirt that covers all the essentials, but shows just a hint of the chest (not CLEAVAGE) , and a dark colored skirt to just SLIGHTLY above the knee, a pair of dark shoes, comfortable, or small heel, Perhaps a pair of nylons and a manageable, simple purse that is conservative and will hold the basics, a little lip gloss, some blush and a bit of mascara, breath mints, a pen and a brush. Simple, but elegant. Maybe a small string of pearls or a small cross on a sweet little chain. I would put my hair in an updo, or pulled back in a simple ponytail (not just THROWN up) with a little bit of bang, small bow or dark hair tie, a little spritz of hair spray to keep it neat and Wah la! You want to convey, able, capable, smart, not frivolous, on top of it, in charge without being bossy, knowing what and who you are. A PROFESSIONAL who represents their company quite nicely! Don't be nervous, take a deep breath, and project "I know what I am doing" and listen well, attentive, and answer only what they ask. Not too much giggling, unless they make a joke! I hope you get the job!|||You should dress as if you already have the job. Look at how the other people who do the same job at the company dress and do it one step better.|||white or pastel blouse with a black skirt (about knee-length)

and wear your hair up, go easy on the makeup to look as natural, yet professional as possible. Good Luck!|||As a human resources professional/recruiter, I always recommend that an applicant investigate the company to find out what the culture is like. This helps you to feel better prepared and more comfortable when answering questions about why they should hire you.

In regard to your wardrobe, be simple, elegant and understated. Your personality should stand out, not your clothes. A simple dress shirt with dress pants or skirt should work. If you have a suit, wear it. Simply put, you should look clean and pressed. Wear simple and understated jewelry; no more than 5 pieces of jewelry. Your hairstyle should also be simple, but pretty. Close-toed shoes are preferable because they do not distract. You want to look cool and elegant especially since you are applying for a hostess job.

Remember that the key to "acing" any interview is to demonstrate confidence in yourself, be prepared to answer any question, know the company & what they value, and be yourself.

Good luck on your interview! I hope you get the job.

There is a painting at the Gaylord Texan of a cyclops cowboy standing in tunnel-like desert scene with cacti and other desert themed items all along the sides, almost like the world were rolled into a tube, and the weirdest part is he has a to-go meal from Whataburger. I need to get a flight from LAX or San Francisco to Buenos Aires for July 22nd-24th under $550 one way. If anyone knows any great hidden gem sites to search off of I would greatly appreciate it. I'm going to study abroad till November so I checked Student Universe and it is $650 one way. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You|||I went to Europe for a year as a college junior. I bought what was called an "open-jaw" ticket which basically leaves the return flight date open for up to a year. It was in the 70's. At that time a one way ticket cost almost as much as a round trip ticket. I believe Kayak has an open-jaw option but you will still have to deal with an airline at some point. It seems that a one way in July should be much more reasonable that the return in November or at some future point since November is late Spring for BA and the flights are far more expensive. Your choice of airports also cause problems with pricing. I have flown to BA five times in the last ten years from SFO and had to go through Dallas or Miami until LAN started service. There are no direct flights from SFO on LAN, though. You will go through Lima. From LAX, I have done direct to Bogota on Avianca, then to BA. Good Luck.|||Bid on priceline.com

  • I will be studying abroad in Brazil for a year (from July 2009-July 2010) but I cannot purchase airfare more than 330 days in advance. And in order to obtain a visa for my study abroad experience, I have to show them my flight itinerary so I cannot just buy a one way ticket and then book another flight back to the US when the time comes. Does anybody know how I can find airfare that has a free date change?

So for example, if i purchase tickets to Brazil now for July 25th-March 6th--I can change the date from March 6th, 2010 to July 25th, 2010.

I just want to avoid the costly fees that come with flight changes (which can be pretty hefty...)

I have checked STA travel and Student Universe, but I don't believe STA travel offers a free date change (or at least the flights that I looked into) and I'm still unsure about Student Universe (can anyone confirm?)

Thank you for your time!|||I agree with Mike. Speak to STA. Give them your dates and destination, so they can check the fares. Ask them if they have any open return fares (as youth/student fares are much more flexible), If they don't ask exactly what you asked here - if there are any fares that allow 1 change free of charge (I know you might wonder how is that different form the open return ticket, but ... ) So, yeah - call them
Oh, check this one firs, so you know what other questions to ask
http://www.statravel.com/cps/rde/xchg/us鈥?/a>|||Quite often, the discounted fare + the fee for changing the date once, is still cheaper than the cost of an open ticket.

What does this mean exactly? I want to know if i have to pay for my checked bags on American Airlines. I bought my ticket off student universe.|||American Airlines charges 15 dollars for the first checked bag, and 25 dollars for the second checked bag.

The only people exempt from these fees are high ranking airline advantage members, passengers holding a first class ticket, and active military personnel.|||online american airlines now says 25 for the first checked bag, 35 for the second.

    |||This simply means the ticket has no restrictions, such as requiring the passenger to have a weekend stay or fly on specific dates. Many people do not recognize what the different fare classes mean because they are quite complicated. Basically, if you see a ticket for the same two cities a lot more expensive on the same airline, just different dates, but still economy, then it is likely a higher fare class ticket.

A full-fare ticket is also usually refundable, whereas other tickets are non-refundable. Because the full-fare tickets are quite a bit more than 'normal' tickets, I don't pay for it because I don't need to have it refundable or anything. But economy is economy, so you will have to pay for the checked bags. I think on some fare classes that are economy, when travelling internationally, some of the fees change, but domestically this is not the case.

After knowing this information, you may feel ripped off and might want to look for a cheaper ticket, but also keep in mind that sometimes on more heavily booked flights, the full-fare tickets are all that is left on the flight available. The lower cost tickets are of a lower class in the sense of its restrictions, but are still economy. So behind the scenes, full-fare tickets get you more, but in most cases, you'll not have to even think about what that offers you. It's basically just a better economy ticket, if that can be said.

I was looking up flights prices for when I go abroad, and most sites have the prices of $900 and up. I came across a site called Student Universe and it has prices starting at $200. Is this site legit? Has anyone had any positive or negative experiences using information from this site?|||StudentUniverse is a legit business geared towards college students.
The prices are lower than in other sites because they have student discounts on flights - they verify that you're a student, and that is why they are so much cheaper.

  • I am considering applying for a FF/rewards credit card. Also, I'm confused by the points/mileage systems...It sounds like a "mile" doesn't really mean a mile, but probably a fraction of one...?|||No, you usually can't use your frequent flyer miles with any company other than that specific airline or their partners. The airline that you are in the frequent flyer program with determines where you can use your miles so you have to read their rules. Go online and see what their promotions are on their web page.

In my program, NW Airlines, I can only use my miles directly through them or their partner airlines, either for an airline ticket or a promotion they are running. I have never been able to redeem my miles through any other source. However, some of their promotions were with other companies, but I still had to go through the airline to redeem it.

I have been on priceline and they don't take frequent flyer miles.

A mile isn't a mile. You are right there. They all have their own idea of what a mile means and how many you need to redeem it. That is also in their specific rules. With NW Airlines, you need a minimum of 21,000 miles to be able to get an airline ticket.

Yes, it's confusing. Hope this helps.

im just curious? mine is me and my family were hiking in zions national park, i was in first grade, and we just got my dog, and she was fourteen weeks. it was a long trail, that not many ppl went on. anyway, there was a deer in the feild, a deer with a baby. and my dog elzie, started yapping. the deer came and charged her! she and the deer were probably 10 feet apart by then, they were both stopped, staring at each other. my dog was barking like crazy, then the deer moved, like she was trying to scare my dog. it worked. my dog turned and ran straight twards me! she jumped up in my arms, and i fell back, then the deer ran of and came back, and we did almost the same thing again! i love my dog. we have had many good times!|||I once threw a frisbee for my dog, and he ran in the opposite direction of the way that the frisbee went. He went straight through the screen door, and then sat on the other side of the door watching me. Still wish I had had a camera for that one, that would have been America's Funniest Home Videos worthy.|||That's funny!!

Mine is my daughters rescue dog we were standing in the kitchen and the dog looked at her then looked at me and just started howling. It was the funniest picture because of the dogs face! After he stopped howling he grabbed the fly swatter from my hand and ran away and hid it..I still have no idea where that darn dog put it!|||when we were adopting my dog, bindi, from a humane society, my dad went outside to have a smoke and he overheard this family that was walking into the shelter. One of the little boys in the family said "i can't wait to adopt care bear!" Bindi's name was care bear when we adopted her! I felt sooo bad because i knew that she would be gone when they got in there!|||ahahah those are funny stories!!

Well once, we went to this local pool, and they were going to drain it, becasue it was the end of the summer. And so they had a doggy day, and so we brought our mini schnauzer who HATES the water, lol. and so, we didnt exactly think there would be soooooooo many people and dogs there!!! and most were lose!!

so we decided to go ahead and get int eh pool with our dog, she tried to swim, not liking it though. but the most funny things were, were the other dogs!!!

there was this weineriemer (idk hwo to spell it) and it was afraid of the water too!! it would swim just liek our dog, but once it got close enough to its owner, it just hoped up onto him!!! haha it was the funniest sight.

and another dog, a lab, was totally not afraid of the water!! the owner threw his fav toy out int eh water, and he just jumped in!!! and went UNDER the water!!?!?! and got it, swam back up with it, and climbed out of the pool on the side ladder!!!! im like OMG how does he know how to do that?? lol

anyway you had to be there, we got home and we were sooo scratched by our dog!! ahha

I live in southern Utah, my boyfriend lives in Las Vegas, and we want to go camping this week. Preferably somewhere warm, I know its supposed to rain Wednesday and Thursday in most areas of the southwest, but we'll decide later if we're willing to deal with rain.

I live right by cedar breaks, bryce canyon, and zion national parks, I go to those a lot and would prefer somewhere different. It's supposed to be freezing at night in the grand canyon, so that's not going to be fun for us.

We're both pretty interested in so cal, but I'm not sure what places are fun for camping and hiking there.

What are some really cool places that you would recommend? it doesn't need to be in so cal, just somewhere that won't be so cold this time of year.

Why did the removal of wolves from northern Wisconsin change the makeup of the plants in the forest?
Wolves used to feed on some of the plants there, and without wolves, the plant population exploded.
Wolves disperse the seeds of pine trees, and without wolves, the seeds couldn't land in new places to germinate.
Wolves are important pollinators of many forest species, and without wolves, fewer plants could pollinate.
Wolves are predators of deer, and without wolves, more deer survived and ate more forest plants.

What is one difference scientists noticed in parts of Zion National Park that had higher species diversity compared with regions with lower species diversity?
Areas with lower diversity had higher rates of erosion.
Areas with higher diversity had less rainfall.
Areas with lower diversity had less rainfall.|||1-Wolves are predators of deer, and without wolves, more deer survived and ate more forest plants.

What do you think? Any other stops along the way you'd recommend?|||Everything looks so beautiful, and i absolutely love that dress and shoes. It is very spiritual...that is the only way I can describe it. Sounds like your road trip honeymoon will be a blast also!

Good luck to you and congratulations!|||aw awesome everything looks great!

Here are my criticisms about the other names:

For the girl names, the others are either overused, sound like a boys name, or sound like something you'd name a cow or tortoise ("Maisy" / "Eloise").

For the boys names, I like Jason, but it's too popular, Ian and Caleb aren't such great names, Kai is cool but better as a middle name (problem is it can also be a girl's name :/), and Zion is just not a name for a person.

I am planning on going on a trip in may to places like the Grand Canyon, Zion National park, Death Valley, etc. To get to our first destination, the group is traveling, by plane, to Las Vegas (From Detroit). When my dad found out we were flying and not driving, he flipped out. I have never been flying, but he hates it, but now he trust flying even less due to 9/11 and emergency landing in the Hudson River.

He claims that the facts about air travel being less likely to die compared to driving is BS because there are more cars on the road then planes in the sky. He also says that if your car breaks down, you can call for a tow, but if a plane breaks down, gravity takes over.

I want to tell him, "well if that plane crashes and I'm on and I die, then I am meant to die. If you keep me off the plane God will find another way to kill me." but obviously tha sounds too harsh.
Help :}|||You can always tell him that in driving, you'll have 1 day and 8 hours to get in an accident (thats how long the drive is), and if you fly, there is only 2 hours you will have to get into a problem (how long the flight is).

With flying, pilots are professional and have extensive training. Basically, any person can drive, and that already makes flying safer.

Good luck!|||well the truth is, planes are MUCH safer than cars. It's also faster to get there. I've done the same trip and I don't know about expenses but getting a rental car there is cheaper than just about anywhere else (Due to casinos). I don't think you need t worry as much about the risk as you do about expenses. If you live in fear your whole life, you wont do anything fun.

I heard Antelope canyon can be best seen between 12-2 PM. Is that true? What if I am late or early to this place. Is it still that beautiful for photography purpose???

How about Zion national park? Can I club any two parks/places in one day? If yes, what are those two. :)|||Definitely early morning or late evening. The heat isn't as rough. I was there last summer and got to watch the sunrise in the valley.
If you get there early enough (4:00am) in the morn, you should be able to see a lot of the Milky Way

A shadow played across the computer screen. A camera was shifted by a petite hand. It focused on a small blue gray eyed girl. She had long bright blonde hair. it was bleached by the sun. She had it pulled into a messy bun on top of her head. A pale face and pouty lips enveloped the screen. She was beautiful. They way her dark eyes were soft and inviting, but cold and violent at the same time. Her cotton candy lips open to a world of white teeth. She started. Her voice was soft and reedy. "I was seventeen the day my life ended." And so the story of a pocket of survivors began.

    Invasion (video blog)
"I was at home, reading. It was noontime. I remember thinking that it was weirdly silent. I just sat there, enthralled with The Great Gatsby. So naive." She shook her head and smiled ruefully. "I walked upstairs to the bathroom I shared with my brother. I wanted to shower. I knocked and knocked. I finally opened the door. The image was surreal. My brother was on the floor, bleeding from his eyes. He didn't have a pulse. I ran to get my mom and dad, tears were streaming down my face. They were dead, too. it was like the worst imaginable nightmare. I ran to every house on the block. I called nine one one. No one answered." Her voice was thick with tears. "Later i found out that i had The Gene. Who knew? Why me?" A tear fell down her cheek. "I ran everywhere. Everywhere. I finally succumbed and ran back to fimiliarity. i packed a bag and food. i was smart enough to grab both the guns and all the shells in my house." She smiled to herself. "I could barely hold them then." She looked away from the screen, sending a questioning look to someone behind it. her face fell but she continued talking. "I grabbed the family car and drove everywhere. i didn't find one like me. i didn't find a survivor. But at that point it didn't matter. I wasn't accepting what happened. i thought i'd wake up and my mom would hand me a plate of pancakes. So, there i was. it was getting dark... I fell asleep in the back of my the car on a cliff overhanging a beautiful ocean veiw. we lived in California. I woke up that night to the loudest sound I'd ever heard. I looked out the door. it was one of their ships. the first shipment. I was so confused. Who were they? What did they want? I had the worst plan to drive over and figure out what was wrong. I got out of the car first. i fell to the ground and screamed. i yelled and creid. I guess that was me accpeting it. i still had no idea what was happening. And then a hand grabbed me. A rough voice whispered, 'come with me,' into my ear. Something sharp poked my back. i got up and ran with the man." her body started rocking with severe sobs. Someone turned the camera off.
    Pain and pain management
Life went on as normal that day. After her break down in the cavern she had repositioned an unfortunate individual. She wanted look out duty. She needed to be outside. it was funny, how everyone listened to her here. She was one of the youngest, only twenty three. She didn't laugh anymore. Her face didn't smile as she made her way through the akward canyon system in which they lived. The dry utah wind whipped her face. She was almost to the post. A few more powerful steps and she was there. it was a small hole at the end of a narrow canyon that looked out on the desert below. they had several of these spots around here. Their home was dangerous, but oh so safe at the same time. it was so obvious, no one would look. Ryden had been there once, with her father, before. it used to be zion national park. it was a system of half open half hidden caves, and canyons lining a desolate landscape. There was one major cavern, where the ate, then smaller hidden areas where they slept and lived. She sat on the rock positioned to allow comfortable watching. Her eyes betrayed her. She cried. only one image filled her mind. it was his. The long brown hair, deep chocolate eyes. the toned muscles and soft smiles. His lips on hers, his hands touching hers. then them. them fleeing. the night they found them and they were seperated. she had no choice but to live on. they, the ones who had taken this planet for their own, hag taken him. Another image flashed in her mind. it was one of the invaders. They looked too much like humans. She certainly thought so. they had the same soft faces and lengthy limbs. they had the same eyes and body shapes. they even had the same skin tone. except on their arms. they all had a birthmark of sorts. They all had soft golden patterns slinking up their arms. She watched a tear disrupt the dusty floor. |||i like the images i'm getting, but it has no flow. your sentences are too short when most of them can be combined to make it better. too much start/stop|||i think its really great! I'm from Canada, and while perusing google images of any state known for scenery, the most impressive seemed to come from Utah. I guess coming from Canada near the Rockies with winter and green scenery all around me, the cliffs and canyons are freakin amazing in comparison to what I'm use to. I can't seem to find similar scenery anywhere else in the US. For example, just looking at this pic is unreal ... http://www.natureswallpaper.com/wallpapers/angels_landing_zion_national_park_utah-1400x1050.jpg
I would love to go, but I would also like to know other places with amazing scenery in the USA.|||I was seriously about to answer Utah. My husband and I were just there in March (and we actually went to Zion, which is where that picture's from, but we didn't go all the way to the top of Angel's Landing). We only went to the southern part of the state, but it was so different than what we're used to (we used to live in NYC, and now we live in New Jersey). FYI, Utah has plenty of snow in the northern part of the state.

Arizona has some pretty impressive scenery too: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sugex鈥?/a> and don't forget about the Grand Canyon (although I personally loved Zion much more than the Grand Canyon).|||Washington, it had temperate rainforest, mountains, deserts, ocean, etc. It is also the cleanest state when considering litter.

    |||I have to agree with you that Utah is a beautiful state. I have been to the Salt Lake City/Northern Utah area 3x and the Southern Utah area (around St. George) once. The northern part of the state is more snowy, while the southern part is more dry. If you like Utah, especially Northern Utah, you will also enjoy Montana and Wyoming.|||The best area for sure is the western US, and Utah is excellent. California is good because it is so long, it has all the elements, beach, mountains, desert.

I think coming from that area of Canada I'd drive down through Montana and Wyoming and into Northern Colorado. Hang a right and into Utah. continue through Nevada and into California. Go north in Cali into Oregon & Washington and head home from there.

It would be a very cool trip and there a lots of camping sites along the route if you like that kind of thing.|||I think New York is good for site seeing like in Times Square and Manhattan. Let's say were are very blessed here in North America with great real estate. Having said that, let me think:

You live near the Canadian Rockies, so I am guessing you might want to see something different, but pretty. I mean you can get the US version of what you have there in Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and even Utah,. etc. Nice places, similar, but the license plates are different. So, as Monty Python would say: now for something completely different.

Try the state of Arizona. You have the higher elevations and mountains in the north--not to mention the Grand Canyon, and in the south you have deserts. The Tucson area down to Sierra Vista is very pretty in a desert sort of way. Same for New Mexico, northern area is more alpine-like, southern more desert-like.

Anyway, a change, but still beautiful.

I'm a Mormon and recently I was told not to talk about the "Lost Boys" who have been thrown out of the Fundamentalist Mormon Church in Colorado City, Arizona by elders in my church because it makes us (regular Mormons) look bad. I really got yelled at and so did my Dad because I asked about the "Lost Boys" I heard about when we visited Utah this summer and went to Zion National Park. It is like Mormons are embarrassed by the FLDS, Warren Jeffs and these "Lost Boys" (if this is true).

One thing is that when I was in Utah it was like .
The church says that there is only like 30 something percent Mormons in Utah but I've been to Utah and I know that's a lie and over the internet I hear as high as 70 percents.|||I depends on where in Utah. In Salt Lake City and other urban areas, the percentage is quite low, and small towns tend to be almost exclusively Mormon.

I'll see if I can find a source for you.

Edit: I found the following article, but it's a couple of years old:
    http://www.sltrib.com/ci_2886596
It says that the Mormon population is steadily decreasing in Utah, so keep that in mind when you check out the map I found from 2000:

I know I've seen a more recent one, but I couldn't find it again; sorry.|||According to the SLC Tribune, in an article about the declining religion, its around 80% statewide, but only 40% in Salt Lake City.

Mormons are embarassed by FLDS because they DO give LDS a bad name. Sadly, the rest of the world is not smart enough to make the disctinction between the 2 churches, so they lump them into 1.|||Yeah I think 30% is low, it is much higher (think about it they control even the liquor laws up there.) I don't know why they would have a prob with you asking about the lost boys. All I know is both LDS and FLDS are cults, with LDS not currently practicing polygamy but believing it will happen in heaven.|||You're a troll...and probably not Mormon. As for Warren Jeffs, and The FLDS and the lost boys I don't really care...funny you made your name today....troll style...As for the LDS population in Utah 60% is the estimate now a days.|||I think that if I were in Utah, I'd be one of those working to help those poor boys.

I am LDS and live near Colorado City. We have no problem discussing the 'Lost Boys' and efforts to support their integration into mainstream society. Anyone who visits the area quickly sees the obvious differences between LDS and FLDS. The only people who struggle with the difference are those who have nothing to compare and do not take the time to educate themselves.|||Yes, they relate all that stuff to mormons. It depends on the city.

Percentage of Mormons in Utah dips

    By AP Wire Services
    11/24/2007

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Residents of Utah who belong to the Mormon church make up 60.7 percent of the state's population, the lowest share ever.

The percentage has declined every year for nearly two decades, according to membership numbers supplied by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The numbers, along with statistics from school districts, the Internal Revenue Service and other sources, helped state officials last week when they estimated Utah's population at 2.69 million, as of July.

If the trend holds, Mormons will make up less than half of Utah's population by 2030.

The state gained more than 84,000 residents between the summers of 2006 and 2007, about half of them transplants.

Utah "will always be a dominant center for that religion. That is not going to change," said Pam Perlich, a demographer at the University of Utah.

The Mormon church, headquartered in Salt Lake City, declined to comment on the trend.

    Hi,

I am planning a vacation to visit Grand Canyon, Zion and LasVegas. I am travelling from Chicago to Phoneix and drive to Grand Canyon and back to Las Vega. I plan to stay in Vegas for 3-4 days and on one of the days, drive to Zion National Park.

    Please advise:

Are kids (2 yr old) allowed if I plan to stay in Vegas and visit Casinos...anything that I can like a family thing in Vegas...?

Also, shall I carry a car seat or rental companies have car seats installed?

What are the places to visit in Vegas when with a family?

All help shall be highly appreciated...
Thanks!|||Car rental agencies do rent child seats but they can be expensive. Most charge $15.00 a day and they have to be returned to the original rental agency. If you rent a car in Phoenix and drop the car off in Vegas you will be charged an additional $15.00 and if damaged that can cost even more. You have to weigh the cost of renting one and the trouble and cost of bringing one on the plane.

    For kids:
    -Adventure Dome at Circus Circus
    -MGM lion habitat
    -Mandalay Bay Shark Reef
-M&M World next to the MGM Grand
-Stratosphere rides on top of the tower (not for small kids or weak hearts)
-Animatronics shows at Caesars Forum Shops
    -Roller Coaster outside NYNY
-Bodies the exhiibit at the Luxor
-Titanic: The Artifacts Exhibition at the Luxor
    -Motion Rides at Excalibur
-Tournament of Kings at the Exaclibur
-Mac King Comedy Show at Harrahs
-Lance Burton Magic Show at Monte Carlo
-Many shows are kid friendly - check each show on this site for age restrictions.

Children are allowed to pass through the casinos with their parents but you can not stop to gamble. You can read this webpage and also check out the "must see" page for even more things to do with the kids.|||Despite what people might say, Vegas is very kids friendly. There are lots of things your 2 yr old will enjoy. Here are a few: The circus clowns at Circus Circus, the Falmingos at the Flamingo, the aquariums at Caesars palace and Silverton, the Lions at MGM Grand...just to name a few. Here is a complete list of things to do, including kid-friendly activities.
    http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/things-to鈥?/a>

Anyone under 21 can walk through a casino floor but they are not allowed to stop or go near slot machines. You cannot gamble with your child next to you.

As far as a child car seat is concerned, you might be better off getting one from the car rental agency but if you want to save the extra money, bring your own.|||Kids are allowed to "pass through" all casino floor areas. Some resorts like The Wynn are NOT stroller friendly so you'll need to carry her. Others are okay with them. I have seen plenty of people with toddlers.

In fact about 10% of Las Vegas Visitors bring children with them. Sound like your trip is mostly using Vegas as Jumping off spot, so I see not problems with what your planning to do.

Here is a place to check out Family Friendly Activities. http://www.kidsinvegas.com

I would also recommend you bring your own child seat if you can.

Zions is a beautiful place to visit, I like it much better than the Grand Canyon.

Enjoy your trip... with all your plans it seems like you may be doing more traveling than vacationing.|||Never heard car rentals have child seats

    Family things ------------------------------
    Shark Reef Mandalay Bay
Lion Habitat MGM Grand (free small)
    Sigfried Roys Secret Garden
    Las Vegas Springs Preserve
    Las Vegas Zoo

BTW Zions is a long drive back/forth|||Many many areas will not allow anyone under 21, baby in your arms or not, near the casino area at all. Not even to cross the area to get to restaurants or rooms, you will use alternate entrances.
Buy a small ice chest to house babies drinks and yours, its very dry and you will both need to drink twice as much as normal so you dont dehydrate. Bring a window shade too, to cut down on sunlight to the backseat where baby will be. Call the car rental places and ask about renting car seats, each will have their own policies. Some car models have them built in, I had one once, I dont know how common it is though.
Carry a few gallons of sealed water, with you at all times during those drives, if you break down you might need them.
You know, a dif vacation with a child at this age, who will be subjected to sitting for hours upon hours, will grow old, children dont look out the windows and appriciate the beauty as adults or even older kids do.
Places for your tike to enjoy in Vegas, cant think of one, thats geared for that age, McDonalds playlands arent really geared for that age group right?
You might want to consider purchasing those car seat covers, and metal clasp covers, the car will reach 120 plus inside when your out of it, and the seat and metal will blister the baby, so you need the metal clasp and seat cover.
Honestly, at this time of year, and all that driving, doesnt seem like a great vacation plan for any family with a 2 year old.

    Yosemite 5 days
    Zion National Park 2 days
Denver City 1 day (want to watch a baseball game that鈥檚 all then off to the Rockies NP!)
    Rockies National Park 5 days

    Montreal 2 days
    Quebec 3 days
    Prince Edward Island 5 days
    Boston 2 day
    Charleston 3 days
    Savannah 2 days

I like Nature/animals/beauty and friendly/nice people and relaxed clean pretty places.

If you suggest staying longer or shorter in any one place please can you tell me why as well! Thank you!|||Sounds like a nice trip! You've picked some nice places! Where are you from? I live in Minneapolis.

Here are the places I've been to that you listed and what my opinions are:

Yosemite-gorgeous! However, the Yosemite Valley, though pretty, can get very crowded. However, I think private cars are now banned into the Valley, so you have to take a bus from the entrances. I think they also got rid of the tacky commercialization that used to be in The Valley.Nonetheless, seeing Yosemite Valley is a must! And go to Glacier Pt. for awesome views of the Sierras.5 days should be enough.

Yellowstone. I personally don't care for it because it's very overrun. It's crowded and like paradise lost. There are too many strip malls and other businesses which shouldn't be in the park. It's also not the prettiest National Park either.I'd say two days should be enough.

Seattle-A nice city, but traffic can be bad. It's very scenic when it's clear. There really isn't a whole lot to do there. Most of the attractions are outside the city. I highly recommend SNoqualmie Falls in the Cascades about an hour east of the city.Awesome!

Vancouver-I'd take 2 days off from Seattle and add them to Vancouver.Vancouver is prettier than Seattle because the mountains are much closer to the city. I think there are also more manmade attractions there as well.Go to Queen Elizabeth Gardens botanical park and Stanley Park. Stanley Park is the nicest urban park around! Stanley Park is a 1,ooo acre park on a peninsula between downtown and the northern suburbs. It has an aquarium, zoo, totem poles, beaches, jogging paths, and scenic views.Vancouver is a pretty safe area, but avoid the areas immediately east of downtown! It's considered Canada's worst neighborhood w/drug addicts, homeless people, and prostitutes. It's called the East End.

Jasper and Banff-You'll probably never want to leave those areas! Those parks are gorgeous!

Except for driving through Denver and flying into Boston to go to a convention north of the city, I haven't been to any of the other places. However, people I know who have been to Boston,Montreal, and Savannah really liked those places. You have good taste!|||Savannah - you won't regret it. Its indescribable. The history, the scenery and the people are surreal.

Honestly its like you're in a different world.

    Enjoy.

    EDIT:

Go to this website.|||You are welcome to come and stay as long as you like in St. Thomas ~ Elgin County, Ontario, Canada. Lots of shops to visit throughout the year, but the touristy places open the long weekend in May and run until the labour day weekend.|||I would scrap Seattle or at least shorten it and add San Fransico. Too bad you couldn't hit San Diego or New Orleans.

Also...Charleston 3 days, Savannah 2 days---that part I would shorten for sure! If your not going to shorten it, make sure to hit Hilton Head Island, just north Savannah. But really I would scrap those 2 cities and go to New Orleans instead.|||I would recomend Yellow Stone National Park and Yosemite, if you like outdoors and nature. They are both beautifull and you won't want to leave.
Seattle........ehhhhhh.....it's ok I guess......if you don't mind getting rained on all the time.|||I'd take a few days off of PEI to see New Brunswick (Whale watching and Sea Kayaking around Grand Manan) and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. If you had time and $, Newfoundland is amazing.

    2. What is one difference scientists noticed in parts of Zion National Park that had higher species diversity compared with regions with lower species diversity?

    a. Areas with lower diversity had higher rates of erosion.
    b. Areas with higher diversity had less rainfall.
    c. Areas with lower diversity had less rainfall.

    3. Choose the sentence that best explains the statement “Tropical rain forests have the highest biodiversity of any place on earth.”

    a. Tropical rain forests have more species of organisms than any other place on earth.
    b. Tropical rain forests have the highest number of salamander species on earth.
    c. Tropical rain forests have more abiotic factors than other place on earth.|||not sure about the first one i would have to say 1a as i do not see how low biodiversity could affect abiotic factors. as biodiversity tends to be affected by them. not vice versa. soil eroision makes sense as there are less species helping to maintain the soil equilibrium of nutrients

biodiversity (as measured on the simpsons index) is a measure of the number of species and the population of each species found

therefore 3a is the best answer|||2>c. Areas with lower diversity had less rainfall.

Less rainfall, like in a desert, leads to homogenous species outcomes, as you have a hugely strong selecting factor. Not many things can live in it and you get selection for a thin number of organisms.

3>a.Tropical rain forests have more species of organisms than any other place on earth

This is just semantics. The statement simply doesn't match the other two answers. We can solve this through cross outing other answers B. is simply wrong. You can't conclude that from the statement. C. has to do with nonliving factors. The rainforest vast diversity may be due to biotic, living, factors selecting for lots of diversity. A goes hand in hand with the statement, but I'll admit that the questions sucks for this one.

I'm in good shape and have very strong legs so hiking my way up is not a concerned. My only concerned is the last half mile part of the trails also knows as the knife's edge. Would any experience hiker who has done this trail recommend me to do this or I would I be adding more danger to the hike by using a harness?|||This is a very popular trail with lots of traffic, steep it is but easy to hike. The chains are more like a hand rail for the inexperienced hiker to aid them up and down the trail. If you were to be using a harness, rope and carabiners you would be blocking the trail too much as folks move rather quickly through that section. Here is a great link for info on the hike,

It can be crowded, and trying to use a safety system on a hike that is not set up for it will make you extremely slow, making you a danger to others.

    Thanks,
Brittanyy.|||I'm a NonMormon that lives in Salt Lake City and know a bit about Utah. One fun fact that people who do not live in Utah always assume that polygamy is still practiced here. I know that because I have left UT and moved elsewhere and people always make jokes about a Mormon man having a bunch of wives. I try to correct the misconception, by saying that the only way that UT was allowed to become a state in the USA was if made polygamy against the law...which they did and UT became a state over a 100 years ago. But people have this misconception, rightly so, because of tv shows like Big Love and Sister Wives which show polygamy. Sister Wives people are now feeling the legal repurcussions in UT.

Also, a state holiday in Utah is Pioneer Day on July 24th. There is a big Days of '47 Parade and other events. It commemorates the day that the Mormon pioneers moved out west and entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. About 2/3rds of the state of Utah today is Mormon.|||When Brigham Young came over the mountain and saw the UT valley, he said "This is the place." and so the Mormons settled there.
The seagul miracle. The Mormons were planting their first crop when the grassoppers were eating it and the Mormons were trying to save the drop. Seaguls suddenly appeared to eat the grasshoppers and save the crop.
Most busineeses still close down on Sunday. Alcohol is still not sold in UT supermarkets.|||Bonneville Salt Flats, in the NW part of Utah, are a popular site of attempting world land speed records.

Promontory Point in 1869 was the site of the joining of the Western Pacific and union Pacific railroads, thus becoming the first transcontinental US railway.

I am from the mountain west, so I am a little biased. The favorite ones I have been to are:

    Yellowstone (all the traditional stuff)
Hiking around and past Jenny's Lake in the Grand Tetons in Wyoming
Hiking to and fishing in Stanley Lake in Idaho's Sawtooth mountain range
Hiking Angel's Landing, The Narrows, and the Subway in Zion National Park in Utah
White water rafting the Grand Canyon, (I have never done it but want to soooo much. I have hiked and ridden the canyon on a mule though)
Hiking to Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, Utah or hiking to Thor's Hammer in Bryce National Park, Utah
White water rafting the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho (also enjoying hot springs, fishing, big game animals, and being in the largest forested wilderness area in the lower 48)
I have heard that the hike to Hidden Lake in Glacier National Park in Montana is amazing and the Going to the Sun road is pretty.

What other quintessential American outdoor experiences are there?
I haven't mentioned anything about the California national parks or anything about Washington state, Alaska, Colorado or the eastern US because I have never been there before. At least I have never been there before on an outdoor trip.

Anyway, list some quintessential outdoor US experiences or your favorites. Thanks|||Kayaking through Everglades National Park has been one of my favorite. It's a different kind of wilderness, but that's what makes our large country unique in all that it offers.
Also, hiking the Appalachian Trail is a big one in the East. It's a months long venture, but an incredible experience.
Waking up to see the fog sitting in the hills in Smoky Mountain National Park is another sight that must be seen.
Also, hiking along First Beach in Olympic National Park in Washington (which I have my heart set on as my next adventure) with the rain forest so close by.. Ugh, I cannot wait!|||not only white water rafting is involved in the grand canyon white water trip, also a gut wrenching up hill 11 hour hike or 14 hour depending if you are going to north or south rim. also hiking up half-dome on yosemite park in amazing.|||Baseball. :)

  • I have a really severe insect phobia that is really starting to impact my life. I can't even get myself to go outside sometimes.

Most say phobias can begin from trauma which in this case, IS THE CASE. When I was very little, my dad had a huge joshua bug land on his shirt in Zion National Park. He flicked it off of his shirt and it landed square on my face and dropped to my shirt. YES- I was screaming, running, and crying, HENCE- My bug phobia was born.

I've tried almost everything to let it pass from coming up close to a bug and just studying, to checking out books and reading about them. I've forced myself outside a few times to let them buzz around me.

Nothing is working and it's really tearing me apart. If I hear anything that even resembles a buzzing noise or a feeling of something crawling on me, I FLIP OUT.

Is there anything I can do to help get over this?

    Thank you for your help
    =)
No Im not crazy- Just deathly afraid of bugs.|||First of all: BELIEVE.

    Now we can begin:

    1. Read about bugs.
    2. Look at pictures of bugs.
    3. Watch YouTube videos of bugs.
    4. Observe bugs from far away in the park/garden (or through a window).
    5. Come closer and observe.
    6. Poke some bugs with a stick.
    7. Get a bug to crawl on a stick/leaf and hold it above the ground.
    8. Get some REALLY SAFE bugs and try to catch them with a net (butterflies and ladybugs work well).
    9. Put a ladybug on your finger.
    10. Have nothing more to do with bugs, just remember how confident you felt when you dealt with them before.

I am just curious to see if it is commonplace to make your way across the pond. If so, where are the hotspots that are common for friends or family to visit?

Whenever I make my way up to San Francisco for the day I always see a lot of British tourists. I see some French and German, but mostly British. Also, I remember as a kid, my family and I went to Zion National Park in Utah and I just remember how many Europeans were there. It seemed like there were more Europeans there than American tourists haha.

Also, if any of you traveled to the US, what did you think of it and where did you go? (first time experiences) I want to know if you guys had a good or bad impression.

When I went to Britain, we traveled up and down the country and traveled up to Scotland and we found the people to be very warm and patient! We couldn't understand them half the time but they didn't get mad (unlike some French in Paris) We didn't run into any anti-americans so it was a pleasant experience. We haven't been back in some time but my family definitely want to return some day :)|||It is not a place everyone goes to but people are not surprised when you say you are going for a visit. The most common spots that people I know have visited are Orlando, FL and New York City.

My first trip to the US was to Austin, TX and I really did enjoy it. The people were very friendly and although it was familiar to some extent it was very different to home. It was very like being in a film especially as the first thing I saw was someone in a stetson carrying a gun. I missed the pavements (sidewalks) and the ability to walk around, driving everywhere was just strange, the supermarkets were very different and the lack of my normal groceries was a little challenging.

I have also travelled to Orlando, South Carolina and Anaheim. All very different and all good in their own way.|||My first visit was in 1980 Huston TX and every year since then now im with my family .
My main states are Orlando/ Miami ,Florida. Boston Ma,New york NY.
people were and still are friendly but due to the color of my hair allot of people talk to me in spanish which i think i have to learn .
Im visiting again in june but allot of bad press is out there about the flu i don't care im coming anyway.|||Less common now because of cost/exchange rate differences, but still a popular destination, yes.

Personally I have been a couple of times in the past, but I have no wish to go again. Personally I prefer north of your border - the culture and approach to life is more in tune with the things that I find great in a place to go. That said several friends of mine have just come back from the States and had a great time.|||New York and Florida is the places where most Brits travel. Others land there and then venture off into the U.S. to wherever they want. But most are Florida and New York. Some California.

Oddly enough, it's where a lot of us Americans vacation too.|||The major holiday destination for British tourists is Florida as so many package deals are available and the weather is almost guaranteed to be good.

As to travelling to the U.S. I first went in the 70's and worked in New York for a week on two separate occasions which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I've also had a holiday in Florida, driving from Miami to Key West and then, after a week, up to West Palm Beach. To be honest, although I enjoyed Key West I found Florida a bit anodyne. The phrase 'Theme Park built on a Swamp' comes to mind.

My favourite trip to the U.S.A. actually began with a week in Vancouver, after which we got a Greyhound bus down to San Francisco - stopping overnight in Portland - and after a week flying to New York for three or four days.

Apart from one unpleasant person in Florida I have always found Americans to be hospitable and friendly be it in the United States or wherever I have encountered them around the world.

I think there is a misapprehension that Americans are unliked whereas it has been the performance of certain American governments over the years that has led to this notion.

    what is the biogeochemical cycle.

also i need one for zion national park

thank you|||Read the article below. It discusses the biochemical cycle and has links to each particular chemical and it's cycle.

Basically there are just a few atomic elements in addition to water that make up the chemistry of life. They include: nitrogen, oxygen, carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, water, and hydrogen. Each of these materials has its own chemical cycle.

A biochemical cycle is basically the steps a chemical goes cycles through as it passes through various plants, animals, bacteria, soil, water and the air as it is eaten, converted, excreted and otherwise used by living things.

The second link is to a picture of the nitrogen cycle to give you an idea of what a cycle looks like. Note that each chemical has it's own cycle and each is slightly different from all the others.

You will really need to read these pages to get the whole story. It is not too complicated but it would be way too long for my to put into this answer.

  • Is grand canyon west and the Hualapai indian reservation and tours a good option for seeing the Canyon? Or is it just better to go to the national park and stay there? Another question; we have three days, and then will be in Las Vegas. Should we spend our time in Grand Canyon or shorten our time there and go to Zion National Park as well?|||You probably won't have time to go to Zion. It is a pretty long ride from the Grand Canyon. At least 3 1/2 hours each way. With three days, going to the National Park is most likely better, there are tours there and a lot of stops if you take the shuttle from the main road.|||Do you mean that you have three days total to spend at the canyon?

If you are going to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park than Zion is just a little of the main route from Vegas to the Park so you could easily make a stop there on the way. The North Rim is less developed than the South Rim (only one lodge) and has fewer overlooks and attractions (the free shuttle mentioned by the poster above is on the South Rim only). The North Rim is less crowded and more peaceful, but unless you are into serious hiking or a lot of vegging, you probably don't need more than a day there to get a full experience. That would leave you plenty of time for a stop at Zion on the way to Vegas.

Zion is an excellent park - not as vast or on as grand a scale as the canyon - but very pretty and scenic on a more personal scale. It is one of my favorite parks.

If you end up going to the South Rim of the National Park then Zion would be out of your way (unless you want to do a completely loop around the canyon via Lees Ferry). The South Rim has more overlooks, historic buildings and attractions, so you could easily spend a couple days there (even without serious hiking) and there are a lot of other interesting attractions in the area (Sunset Crater, Wupatki, Flagstaff).

Drive time wise... it takes about four and a half hours to get from Vegas to either the North or South Rim... typically a little longer for the South Rim, a little less for the North Rim.

Note that if you want to stay at one of the lodges in the park (especially the North Rim), you should make reservations as soon as possible (see link below). Also note that the lodge, store, ranger station and other facilities at the North Rim are only open from mid-May to mid-October.

Which ever side of the canyon you chose, I would definitely recommend going to the National Park (North or South Rim) and spending a night or two there at one of the lodges. Grand Canyon West is located far downstream of the national park (just upstream from where it empties into Lake Mead). While the canyon is still big and impressive there, it is no where near as big, deep or has the complex formations and spires as in the park (which is where all the famous paintings and photos are done). Moreover, GC West is expensive ($80 per person if you want to go on the glass skywalk) and there is no hiking or free roaming around (there are only two overlooks). While some people do enjoy their trip to GC West, quite a few visitors have gone away disappointed (check out some of the reviews on TripAdvisor).

We are driving from Zion National park (USA) to the grand canyon we have one night to spend before we get to the canyon where should we stay Lake Powell or Monument Valley taking in the drving distance.|||As the poster above mentions, you really need a boat to fully experience Lake Powell. Without one, you can just look at it or go to the little public beach north of the state line, but there is really not that much to do. They have boat tours out to Rainbow Bridge, but I don't know that I would call it a must-see and it might be difficult to arrange with your driving schedule. Just southeast of Page (near the dam) is the famous Antelope slot canyon (with the narrow curving sandstone walls) which can be toured for a fee. These are very cool and worth visiting.

Monument Valley is famous mostly for its sweeping desert vistas with the mesas and buttes made famous as the backdrop for many western movies. There is a little driving tour that takes you down and around the buttes, but unless you are a serious photographer, you can pretty much experience the whole thing in a few hours. Not sure if that is worth the extra driving since Monument Valley is a good 2+ hours (one way) further away from Zion and the Canyon than Lake Powell. If you do go here, you should also check out (and perhaps stay at) the historic Gouldings trading post and Lodge.

One big thing to consider is which rim of the canyon are going to be visiting (north or south)? If you are coming from Zion, than I presume that you are going to the nearby North Rim (about 2.5 hours drive away). In this case, both Lake Powell and Monument Valley are going pretty far out of the way. I would consider going up to nearby Bryce Canyon National Park instead (either stay at the lodge there or one just outside the gates).

Since both Zion and the GC are really great spots, you might want to try to maximize your time and both by staying late in the day at Zion, spending a quick night at Kanab, and then getting down to the canyon early the next morning - without trying to go out of your way to see other things.

On the other hand, if you are going to be driving all the way around to Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim, than you are already looking at a 5 hour drive even without any detours. In this case, you will be passing pretty close to Page and Lake Powell anyways (assuming you are driving around on the east) and could easily take a quick look at the lake or Antelope Canyon. You could spend the night at the interesting Cameron Trading Post and Lodge (near the east entrance to Grand Canyon) and check out the nearby Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monuments (Sunset Crater is an extinct volcanic field and Wupatki is a large prehistoric indian ruin - both are very cool and not far from Cameron).|||lake Powell is a big lake where you can rent boats and ski fish ,stuff like that . not much to see but the dam and water . don't know about the other place . but it is a pretty site if you can go to the other side of the canyon it is really interesting to visit and view

Also we wanted to hike to Angel's Landing in Zion national park, how hard is the hike, and is it possible to do in March.

I've actually hiked in Angels' Landing in March and it was fine. It does depend on the weather though, sometimes it can be really unpredictable during that time of the year. I have not been camping in a few years. I want to go to zion national park in october where the average low temperature is 49..i think she will be fine, i just want other inputs/experiences..thanks|||Yes of course, dress warmly, eat well and have plenty of insulation for sleeping time. enjoy!
http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles鈥?/a>|||I took my daughter camping when she was 8 months old and again last week and she's now 20 months. She was fine both times. 49 degrees isn't that cold. Heck, we even had her in the lake both times. There was also a massive storm while we were there and a little cuddle on our air mattress that night was all she needed to go right back to sleep. Also, we only had a tent, no camper (not sure what you have).

Just make sure you have lots of changes of clothes (mine went through an outfit a day with her diaper blowouts and there was nowhere to do laundry), food, snacks and drinks that she likes (or can get some there) (I brought Pediasure since it doesn't need refrigeration and it's nutritious and filling) and some warm blankets. Put her in a sleeper at night for sure. Don't forget lots of diapers and wipes! lol

I'm making it sound complicated but really it's probably all stuff you would do anyway when you go out for a length of time.

My daughter had a great time. I did bring some simple toys too for the times when we were stuck in the tent during the rainstorm.

I have booked a coach trip during the last two weeks in October, travelling from Rapid City, South Dakota Mount Rushmore - Cody - Yellowstone National Park - Jackson - Salt Lake City - Mesa Verde National Park - Grand Canyon national Park - Zion national Park - Las Vegas. I would appreciate a little info re temperatures/weather just to plan what clothing to bring. Restricted to one suitcase on flight from UK so would appreciate some advice.|||Rapid City is great, Mt Rushmore, Blackhills, Badlands, Crazy Horse Mountain ..... lots of cool things to see up there, Deadwood is popular place nearby also. Your trip sounds like a great trip.

I would plan on it being 50 to 60 degrees during the day. It can always vary so just check the 2 week forcast for that area before you leave. You can also google average temperatures rapid city sd to get an idea.|||You are going to be encountering Mountain climate in Jackson and Yellowstone. Prepare for temps as low as the mid to upper 40's. Mesa Verde is also higher elevation though not as high as the first 2 stops. In Salt Lake City the Wasatch Range lies to the South so it is subject to colder air and high winds.

Zion National Park is at a lower elevation and is also protected by Checkerboard Mesa etc so expect temps to be 10-15 degrees warmer than SLC

Grand Canyon and Vegas are going to be in the upper 60's to low 70's

Your trip will range by about 25 degrees total.|||= The jet stream, which tends to weaken in summer, begins to re-strengthen, leading to a quicker changing of weather patterns and an increased variability of temperatures. By late October and November these storm systems become strong enough to form major winter storms.

  • I recently went to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon and was a bit dissappointed that my 28mm (x1.6) lens wasn't quite wide enough to get a "dramatic" effect for landscapes...are there any quality wide-angle lenses available for about $300 or less?

Thanks...mb|||I'm sure you can get some lenses that get to 18mm or so for a reasonable price.

For true wide-angle photography, you would want to consider something like 10-12mm, though.

It's not quite within your price range (it's $467 at Amazon) but it's still inexpensive compared to the camera manufacturer's equivalents -- Sigma makes a 10-20mm lens that has been very well reviewed.

At 10mm, you'll be able to get some *very* wide angle shots... and should have the drama you're looking for. But, perhaps not the wide angle feel of something like a fisheye lens. Consider whether you want the image to appear to warp at the edges or not in that decision.|||Meets the price limit:
    * The cheapest is the Kit Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM... (with the 1.6x it's a 28.8-88mm) probably $50-100 on eBay or $150 from Amazon
    * The next is the Tamron Autofocus 17-35mm f/2.8-4 DI LD Super Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon... at Amazon it's direct price is $480, but it sells for $290-$300 from their partners. This is probably the best answer for quality and wide for the Rebel at 1.6x it's 27.2mm (close to what you were used to with your 28mm on a film camera) - 56mm (close to your old 'normal' lens)... The max aperture is pretty nice to (Also see the sample photos here). It also got a very good rating at FM Reviews.

Meets the dramatic effect requirement, but not the price:
    * Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is around $680 on Amazon, but it's conversion is 16mm to 35.2mm, it's about as wide as you can go without getting major distortion (which is the amazing thing about this particular lens that it has very little distortion compared to other lenses in its class).
    * If you just want D-R-A-M-A-T-I-C photos and don't care about distorsion then you may want to consider the Tokina 10mm - 17mm F/3.5-4.5 DX Autofocus Fisheye Zoom Lens for Canon EOS it's about $500 on Amazon, it gives you 180 degree (left-right) fisheye view at the 10mm setting on 1.6x crop cameras, and can zoom into a pretty regular wide photo.|||The words "quality" and "inexpensive" do not go together. You can get a cheap wide angle or semi-fisheye screw-on lens adaptor that you put in front of your existing lens and get so-so panoramic shots or you can get an expensive sub-15mm lens that goes straight to the camera body and get mind-blowing pictures.

Whatever happened to your 18-55mm kit lens? That should have been good enough. As for your $300, it could be too much or too little for the choices I have given above.|||Wide angle lens usually is expensive. The Tokina 12-24mm F/4 lens is a very good lens with reasonable price. If you like to take wide angle pictures, you should try this one. You can buy used at around $400 and new one costs almost $500.

    - Zion National Park|||Yup- definately Zion, Bryce and the Grand Canyon.

Billy's right about the south rim. It can get crowded and tends to be very touristy. The north rim has views just as fine and isn't crowded, and often you can find it quiet and secluded. Of course, there are no shops or restaurants nearby- except for Jacob's Lake Inn (which is nice, btw)

Go to the north rim first- spend a day just enjoying it quietly, then go to the south rim the next day-if you really want to see all the visitor's centers and shops. And yeah, pass on the skywalk.

And you will want to advance book a horseback ride through bryce. It's a rough hike otherwise. I'd go for a minimum 2 hour ride- longer if you're in good shape and can handle it.

There are rides in zion too, but you don't need them. The narrows hike is gorgeous and level, the angel's view hike is challenging and treacherous. (no small children allowed)

At Zion, try staying at the Cliff Rose. It's just outside the gates, and it's a nice place, reasonable rates, great views. (avoid the "tourist junk shops" on that road, though. Most just sell cheap souvenirs. The one good place is in the same parking lot as the Cliff Rose- they sell nice native-made artwork at fair prices. especially high quality items. For the really best prices though, come to our reservation and buy from the artists themselves. )|||Bryce canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon (go to the North Rim- it's just as stunning and you'll avoid all the tourists clogging up the south rim. And don't waste your money on the skywalk-it's a ripoff)

Take the horseback or mule ride through Bryce- it's the best way to see it

At Zion, bring waterproof sandals or watershoes and hike the narrows trail. Do it in the afternoon if you want a cooler hike-that side will be in the shade by then.

If you have been given a choice, what would you prefer?

    A) A weeklong vacation to Hawaii?
    or
    B) A two weeklong trip visiting historic and beautiful spots across the USA (well, from New York City, Statue of Liberty, Niagara Falls, Chicago, Mall of America, Grand Teton, Yellowstone National Park, Mt. Rushmore National Park, Zion National Park etc)... before going back to CA?|||I choose letter B. why? it's a great opportunity to visit these historical places. not everybody is given the chance to visit these remarkable sites in american history. To see and be there would be a significant moment in my entire life. I would be please to tell everyone that I WAS THERE!|||Oh boy. I've never been to Hawaii, and I'm sure it's a wonderful place to visit. For trip B, would it be a road trip? Kind of sounds like it. I love road trips, and if you do too (and if you're VERY compatible with the person/people you're travelling with), I would choose trip B. I have been to Yellowstone and Zion, and they are both jaw-dropping places to visit, especially Zion. I'm not really into malls, so I'd probably skip MOA in favour of some of the other supremely beautiful National Parks near Zion and Yellowstone. How about Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks in Utah. Definitely worth a visit, and much better than a mall.

http://www.nps.gov/state/ut/|||Personally, Hawaii, but that's because I've been there 4 x's and i love it. It's one of the most beautivul places I've ever seen. Hawai'i is beautiful but very expensive and only SO much you can do. If you go to Niagara Falls go to the Canadian side... much better view!|||I would go for the two week long trips. Day 1 --> Late Night arrival in Vegas, stay the night at a hotel near the strip.

    Day 3 --> Las Vegas
Day 4 --> Leave early for Zion National Park and then see Bryce Canyon. Stay overnight near Bryce Canyon
Day 5 --> Leave early for Glen Canyon and Lake Powell. Return in the evening and stay overnight at Bryce Canyon/Zion (Please Suggest)
Day 6 --> Leave for Las Vegas and cover Red Rock Canyon OR any other place (Please Suggest). Catch late night flight for Home

Should I reverse the order i.e. cover the National Parks and then stay 2-3 Days in Vegas ?

Thanks|||Aside from a brief drive-thru of the parks, you won't really be seeing much in that little time. Personally, I'd spend a day in Zion, a day in Bryce and skip Lake Powell. That will give you time to enjoy both parks and not just rush through (which is difficult because it is impossibelt o take your car to the nicer parts of the parks, there are busses) AND give you ample time to get back to Vegas to see Red Rock or stop on your way bact to Vegas at Valley of Fire state park.

Preferably some kind of shoes that I could wear both on dry ground and in the water. I hiked part of the Zion National Park Narrows today, and there's no way I'm doing that again wearing regular sneakers.|||http://www.cabelas.com/p-0069095813095a.鈥?/a>
I have these, they function well in wetlands
Yup they are roomy in the toebox, and might I add, I had a pair of others that were more expensive and fully leather, I thought those would be better for the water and all I got from them was a kind of footrot and lots of blisters because they held out water and held in perspiration
Also good for uneven ground and rocks that crop up out of nowhere|||I prefer the same leather oxfords that I wear for all my walking. I don't bein having a lot of shoes. I'd rather have one or two pairs of all purpose that I know will always be comfortable. These are also relatively inexpensive. I do quite a bit of day hiking with my two boys. Advice from anyone experienced with both systems would be great.|||i assume you mean class, and not grade. grade in the YDS refers to the length of a climb, grade IV would be a full day climb.

i don't know about your british system, but grade IV here in the states usually refers to scrambling. while exposure may be present which would result in death, i typically don't rope up unless i am going to be roped up anyway. typically I simul climb if i do end up roped up. some people may recommend roping up for a class IV climb.

I was just at Zion National park and on the tour bus they said that the water that drains out of the sandstone has been tested to be from 400 years to something like 4000 years old. How do they determine the age of the water since there is no carbon in it to carbon date it?

Oh ya and everyone should visit Zion National Park, its in southern Utah, and is one of the most beautiful places I have been.|||Tritium, 3H, is a radioactive isotope of Hydrogen that makes up a part of nuclear fallout. Due to all the testing done over the last 60 years, there is a measurable amount of this element in all water, which can be used to date water.

Any older than this, and you can still use carbon dating. When rain falls, it dissolves some carbon dioxide out of the air. This carbon dioxide remains dissolved in the water as it moves through the ground, and can be dated. This is not the most accurate way of dating, as the carbon exchanges with any carbon (mostly from limestone) in the rocks it passes through, making the water appear older.|||There's probably minerals in the water that can be dated (such as carbon). OR there's a way to tell how many cycles of evaporation it's been thought. But it'd say dating the minerals sounds most logical.

I am trying to figure out which trip would better around Memorial Day. My friend and I are planning a week long trip are considering either going to Yellowtone National Park (and the Grand Tetons) or the Grand Canyon (plus Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Las Vegas, Lake Mead, and that areas). Any recomendations.|||With the Grand Canyon plan, you get more variety, with Vegas and Lake Mead. All places listed are fun in there own way.|||Either one would be nice but the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, etc. area will be a bit warmer than Yellowstone. The temps should still be tolerable during the day at this time of year, however.

Another factor will be the number of people in the area. If you don't mind crowds, Vegas and Mead are hopping during these long weekends with people making side trips to Zion and the Grand Canyon. Yellowstone is a bit further from population centers and so might be a little less crowded with long weekend types no wanting or being able to take the trip to Yellowstone.|||That's a hard question. I've been to all of the parks you mention (many times) and personally, if I had to choose, I'd go with Grand Canyon / Zion / Bryce. As an alternative, have you considered Canyonlands / Arches / Mesa Verde / Monument Valley? If you're up to a little hiking, Arches is a must see, otherwise you might want to skip it. What can I say about Mesa Verde - it is unique. There is no other park like Mesa Verde and this year they are celebrating its 100th anniversary.

Yellowstone will definitely be less crowded. It will also be much colder. There may still be large patches of snow on the ground and Yellowstone Lake may still be frozen over. Memorial Day is before the tourist season in Yellowstone begins (usually mid June) so shops may be closed. Dining options may be limited, depending on which corner of the park you're staying in. You might be better off staying in West Yellowstone instead of in the park.

Whatever your choice, I'm sure you'll enjoy the trip. Have a good one!|||Grand Canyon not everyone thinks its a cool place to visit but you would be surprised at what you might see there.|||To me, just being able to go on a 7 day trip sounds wonderful! I can count on one hand the places that I have been. I guess you could consider what type of weather you would want to encounter, and what's the best package deal for the money that you will spend. We are planning to visit Zion national park in october. I'm very interested in hiking the narrows. How far can we go w/o getting wet? Or do we have to get dry suits and what not?|||You can enjoy the scenery for about a 30 minute hike before hitting the real narrows. After that you get wet, but you don't need dry suits. If it hasn't been raining you don't have to get wet past your knees.
You should call ahead because they do have regulations and check-ins if you're doing more than just hiking up to the part where you get wet.

There is a great, little known, slot canyon called Spring Creek that is just as scenic but dry. It is actually on the north west border, 10 miles or so north of the Kolob visitor's center. There are no signs, not gates, and you don't have to pay admission. On the south end of Kanarraville the road turns west a little bit. At this turn there is an unmarked dirt road that heads southeast. It only goes maybe a mile now, but used to go to the mouth of the canyon. Park and hike a mile up the old road (no motor vehicles allowed) and you can't miss it.

I am camping my way through Badlands, Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon and Zion national parks. I plan on buying an annual pass for $80.00, but as far as I understand it that only covers admission to the parks. What does camping typically cost per night? Thanks!|||It varies by park and by the type of campsite and facilities you use.

A bare, primitive tent site at Badlands' Sage Creek Campground is free. An RV hookup at Cedar Pass Campground provides electricity (and maybe water) runs $28 per night. Using the dump station is $1 per use.

Bryce is $15 for up to three tents and two vehicles per site. The annual pass may discount the rate 50%.

Yellowstone ranges from $12 to $37 depending on which of the 12 campgrounds selected and the amenities of the campsite.

Grand Canyon's south rim has designated campsites at $10 to $12, and camping "at large" in certain areas for free. North Rim campsites are $17 to $25. There are also some nice campgrounds outside the park, but close enough that it is all the same, at $17; also there are non-designated campsites throughout the forest for free.

Zion's Watchman campground is $16 to $20; Lava Point is free, but there are only 6 primitive campsites; there are four more private campgrounds which are conveniently close.|||National Park Camping

There are lots of opportunities for camping at national parks throughout the United States and Canada and several different types of camping to choose from, depending on your interests and level of experience. This ranges from camping at full-facility campgrounds, to backcountry camping with limited facilities, to wilderness camping where you might find no facilities at all.|||= The park entrance fee applies to all visitors. If you arrive in your private car, minivan, pickup truck, or RV, the entrance fee is $20 per car. This is valid for unlimited entries to Yosemite for seven days, and includes all occupants of the car.

Otherwise, entrance fees are as follows:

Looking to do a back country camping trip to ZNP this September. We are considering reserving site 2 (Deep Creek) or maybe trying for a walk in at site 1 (Maple Camp). It would only be for 1 night so we won't be carrying a whole lot but what is a reasonable time limit to drive out to Chaimberlain's Trail Head from the main park road and about how much time or mileage is it to site 1? Also is there any option for camping along the north fork of the Virgin River before entering the park? Thanks!|||I do not think that you understand the prevailing circumstances of your proposed adventure. I recommend that you undertake a day hike, unless you are very experienced and in good physical condition. In summer, I will hike 10-20 miles a day on firm trail. However, my winter hikes in snow is half of that. Spending an entire day in a stream to cover 16 miles sounds a bit uncomfortable for me, especially with a full pack of gear for overnight.

"The Virgin River has carved a spectacular gorge in the upper reaches of Zion Canyon: 16 miles long, up to 2000 feet deep, and at times only 20-30 feet wide. The Zion Narrows; walking in the shadow of its soaring walls, sandstone grottos, natural springs, and hanging gardens can be an unforgettable wilderness experience. It is not, however, a trip to be underestimated. Hiking the Zion Narrows means hiking in the Virgin River. At least 60% of the hike is spent wading, walking, and sometimes swimming in the stream. There is no maintained trail; the route is the river. The current is swift, the water is cold, and the rocks underfoot are slippery. Flash flooding and hypothermia are constant dangers."

I would probably choose to go in the fall because the days are usually clear and mild; nights are often cool. Autumn color displays begin in September in the high country. Colors in Zion Canyon usually peak in late October.

Zion's weather is very unpredictable. Precipitation peaks in March. Summer days are hot 95-110掳F. Winter in Zion Canyon is fairly mild, but the nights are often in the 20s and 30s.|||Summer, but be sure to check weather conditions first! If there's any rain, don't go!|||It really depends on the hike, the weather that week, and the year.

It depends on the current snowpack, the current temperatures, rain, etc.

I'd probably avoid it before early or mid May. There are lots of slot canyons that retain snow because they see so little light.

That said, you can show up and pick and choose your hikes based on the weather conditions. You can't really go wrong in June, July, or August. Some hikes require passes and have a daily limit, so you might want to start looking into what you want to do there and planning accordingly.

Traveling the first week of september is there any thing we should know ?|||Well, Highway 12 from Zions to Bryce is Gorgeous. However, i would also recommend that you go up Highway 12 and drive the Burr Trail road to Lake Powell. If you go to Zions the first night and only plan to stay one day at zions, Id would drive on and stay the NEXT night at Rubys Inn at Bryce. Bryce Canyon in the morning is SPECTACULAR. If you dont hike in the park, it will take you 1/2 of a day to see most everything interesting. If you want to hike, Id go the wall street route.. If you are ambitious, you can hike through Bryce Canyon to Tropic.. But be sure someone drives to Tropic to pick you up. I would then head up 12 to Tropic, escalante and up to boulder. There are some stretches of 12 that are only 24 feet wide on the top of the Mesa. If the leaves are turning be sure to go see Hells backbone (Rent a 4x4 if you are going to do this) When you get to Boulder, turn off and drive the Burr Trail. Its awesome.Take the Wolverine Canyon loop. You might find some petrified wood. (Its a sandy wash and if it has recently rained.. DONT DO IT) You will come to a cattle guard and on your right will be a rock with a hole in it. Stop and get out. There are tons of green colored rocks (lots of copper there) that are pretty neat. . Then stay the night at Defiance House at Lake Powell. Lake Powell is terrific. (Another good reason to rent a 4x4 so you can explore the shoreline) Go back to Hanksville and take 24 throuh Fruita (cool place) and go to Torrey. Eat at the Cafe Diablo, but not too much. Go on to Bicknell and stop at the Sunglow and have some pickle or pinto bean pie. I know it sounds disgusting, but its awesome. Stay on 24 and that will take you to Koosharem. Turn there and take 62 to 80 then through Circleville (Butch Cassidy made that place famous) and then 20 back to I-15. Lots of decent hotels there.. Lots to see.. antelope.. Deer, occasionally elk. It will be worth the effort.

Uplift caused the area to be lifted more than 10 000 feet higher than where the sediments were initially deposited. This extra slope cause the water flowing over the rock to travel faster and cut deep ridges and valleys through the sandstone. Day 1- visit Salt Lake City and nearby. Then drive towards Zion in the evening.
Day 2 - Zion for the day, Leaving for Vegas at night.
Day 3 - Vegas, leaving for home in the evening.

My question is, which town/hotel we should stop and stay on Day 1? Many people on yahoo suggested Springdale but it seems a bit further. Is Mount Carmel a good town to stay? Is it far from Zion? Which hotel there is better in quality-wise? Any other suggestion?

Thanks in advance for your response~|||Zion Mountain Resort is the closest lodging to the east gate of Zion National Park, the Zion National Park Vacation Homes are located in the geographic center of Zion National Park, and Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort is located just above the park.

We're going to a wedding in Las Vegas on May 1st, and think we want to vacation somewhere in drivable distance. We have a 4 year old and a 1.5 year old. My husband objects to Disney because we have always tried to avoid commercialism with our kids. Really, they've never seen a single Disney movie. But I think at least it's a place specially designed with young kids in mind. It would be Zion hands down but I'm intimidated by camping with such young kids. I'm also worried that it may still be too cold at night in May.

What do you think?|||Have you thought about having a vacation in Vegas ? My kids love it. The pool at the Flamingo is great for kids, they love travelling on the monorail, Circus Circus, Excalibur and Luxor are all places they enjoy as well as the pirate ship show outside Treasure Island and the fake volcano outside the Mirage. Lake mead and the Hoover Dam are close by and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon makes a great overnight adventure.|||Well they are not old enough to participate in any of the Ranger kid activities at Zion and it may well still be cold in May for camping. Perhaps there is a hotel near enough that you could stay in a hotel and just day trip into a part of Zion?

Camping with little kids is unique - I have done it but tough weather can really be a deal breaker. Most times they just liked hanging around and playing with sticks and throwing rocks in water - which you can do anywhere.

You would need a lot of camping gear and heavy rated sleeping bags if you were camping - if you are flying into Vegas - you would have a lot of luggage to deal with. I'm assuming that you are flying in because otherwise you might have said that you would stop along the way or back. If you are driving anyway - I think that choosing something on a smaller scale might be a better choice.|||As a person that boycotts anything Disney (to me it is not "the happiest place on earth", but more of the world's biggest tourist trap), and as a nature lover, I would go with Zion. You can also go to Joshua Tree National park right outside of Palm Springs, California. It is a huge park in the desert and at that time of year the temps are in the 70's and perfect. it is also an easier drive from Vegas than Disney is.|||I'd pick Zion National Park over Disneyland any day! Disneyland is as commercial as it gets. It's also over-priced and over-hyped as a tourist attraction. Zion National Park has such great scenic beauty, you won't be disappointed. You don't have to go camping. You can stay at a hotel in St. George, Utah, which is only about a half-hour drive away (that's where I stayed in Utah). You can also visit Bryce Canyon while you're in Southern Utah. Both are very beautiful state parks.

Here is a link on Bryce Canyon:
http://www.nps.gov/brca/index.htm|||I'd use Zion and No I don't think that the nite time temps on the floor of Zion will be too cold for kids although the Virgin River water will be
I'm having a "research your question " problem w/YA so I can't get Zion temps instead I'm going to give you April and May GCNP average maximum and minimum temps and since you know that in that part of the world temps are consistent with altitude you can figure out what Zion's temps @ 4000' will be
    April
    South Rim 7000' avg max 60 >>avg min 32 >>precip 0.93
    Inner Gorge 2400' avg max82>avg min56>>precip.0.47
    May
South Rim avg max 70 >>avg min 39>>precip.0.66
    Inner Gorge avg max 92 >.avg min 63>>precip 0.36
    Enjoy Zion

    FYI
There are 2 REI stores in the Las Vegas area and if you're a member then renting camping gear is really cheap|||I think your kids are too young to enjoy Disneyland, so I'd choose Zion if that's the choice you have. You can check the NPS website for info on Zion and you should be able to find out what the average nighttime temperature is in May.|||Normally I'd pick Zion, but your kids might be too young to appreciate the park, they would enjoy Disneyland more. This is a tough call but I'm going for Disney.|||Disney Hong Kong, the newest Disney. Check www.DiscoverHongKong.com and enjoy!

Looking for an awesome backing trail for spring break thats warm with out alot of snow.. thanks|||My favorite place to hike in Utah is Capitol Reef National Park. A few nice trails are Cohab Canyon, Grand Wash, Navajo Knobs, and Brimhall Bridge. Lower Calf Creek Falls between Boulder and Escalante is beautiful, and shouldn't be too busy in March. Just watch out for the ravens at the waterfall. They'll unzip your pack and steal your food. Wherever you go, check the weather on the websites below. Sorry I couldn't help with Zion. I'm going there for the first time in two days.

What's your favorite and why?|||Zion has several overnight hiking trails but they are all along the rim of Zion and you must get approval first. I like to do the narrows hike it is a lot of fun - I hike up first then down it takes two full days and be sure to check the weather - flash floods are frequent in this area. Happy Hiking|||Zion has a few over night hiking trails. Most are hike and mountain scalers. Not a popular place for over nite hikes. Bryce is loaded with hiking trails with camping.

  • What is the temperature difference hiking the Narrows compared to the general park? Thanks|||As long as you're staying in the water, it is much cooler, but still warm. It is best to go early in the morining so you can hike as far as possible in the narrows. Bring water shoes or sandals, as it is very rocky. There are a few good "beaches" where you can eat your lunch and there are some good rocks for jumping into the river. It's a great hike. Also, be sure to go up Angel's Landing, you will not regret it. Zion is awesome.|||Go to the Zion Adventure Company website for detailed information about hiking the Narrows. I rented a hiking staff, Canyoneers (river boots) and a waterproof backpack from them for the hike. I did the hike (bottom up) in October as a compromise between crowds, heat (air temp) and water temp. It鈥檚 a super hike and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The river bottom is almost entirely smooth rocks and very slippery. The soles of the Canyoneers are made of the same kind of rubber used in rock climbing shoes and are designed to grip the rocks. They come with neoprene booties for warmth. They worked great and I highly recommend them. Good shoes like the Canyoneers and a hiking staff are a must for safety. You can do it in sandals but the risk of falling is much greater and your progress will be slowed.

The river depth is always changing as deep pools fill in and new ones are created by the river. Don鈥檛 let waist or chest deep water stop you from going up. The water is murky so you can鈥檛 see the bottom in the deeper stretches of the river. If you are uncertain about the depth, send one hiker out to scout the shallowest route. Deep pools are few and far between so they aren鈥檛 really a concern. You can do without the waterproof backpack by carrying your pack overhead if you run into deep water. However, if you fall, I hope your camera is in a plastic bag.

I agree with Cipher鈥檚 recommendation that you also do Angel鈥檚 Landing if possible. Have a great trip and stay safe.|||It's more shaded, since the canyon is steeper there and since the trail to the narrows has trees. Avoid noon time, the sun is shining directly into the canyon then. The water keeps the temperature cooler than on the other trails.

The stone in Zion National Park is mainly sedimentary, which is stone formed from loose sediment at the bottom of a lake or ocean that hardened into rock. This type of rock is particularly vulnerable to water erosion. Over the centuries, flooding from rainstorms has carved channels and caves into the rock of the area that became Zion National Park.|||that's like saying that why is the world round
ok but I'm gonna guess it had something to do with the plates moving that caused the formation of the caves, or I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the earth doing something to form caves

Only have time to see one of these parks...any advice re: which one is the most scenic, most enjoyable. We are two 20-somethings hoping to see sights, relax, do a bit of hiking and camp. Only have about 2-3 days..|||Bryce Canyon-you'll discover a moist world in the aptly named Mossy Cave, which is fed by a natural spring. Walking down the Queen's Garden Trail, you'll notice that the vegetation on the north-facing slopes and in the narrow gullies -- Douglas fir and ponderosa pines -- is far different than the pi帽on and juniper in the sunnier areas. And there is a much cooler and wetter climate at the higher elevations in the southern section of the park -- such as along the Bristlecone Loop and Riggs Spring Loop trails. Bryce Canyon at first seems easy to understand -- it's the hoodoos -- but look a bit closer and you'll soon come to realize that in addition to its delightful rock formations, Bryce Canyon has serene woodlands of pine where deer graze in open meadows, and dense forests of spruce and fir where you'll find the world's oldest living organisms -- bristlecone pines. Of course, there are also the lowlands, below the rim. This is definitely a desert, yet anything but drab, with its colorful and whimsical hoodoos.
Then there is Zion, which has a more complicated environment. It has stupendous rock formations -- even a few hoodoos of its own -- but it also has the unique Narrows, a canyon carved by the Virgin River, which is home to fascinating microclimates and habitats that support plants and animals not seen elsewhere in the park. These include the rare Zion snail, found nowhere else in the world. In some ways, Zion seems to have even more diverse geographic features than Bryce Canyon -- everything from delightful little pools surrounded by delicate ferns and wildflowers to rocky, windswept ridges, where only the most determined and rugged plants and animals can survive.
Hope this helps you decide...|||The Grand Canyon extends its incomparable majesty for more than 200 miles across the desert highlands of northern Arizona. Attractions Inside Grand Canyon National Park are such as South Rim, North Rim, Havasu, Toroweap.

    |||I would choose Zion. Bryce seemed to be more of a "wow, look at that" kind of park. It is gorgeous and amazing, but Zion has better camping, gorgeous trails, waterfalls, and you can wade through the Narrows which is quite amazing as well.

I have visited both parks twice, and cannot wait to go back to Zion again. To have to choose between these two, Zion has more interaction, in my opinion. You can always drive through Bryce on the way to Zion! (or vice versa) they are only two hours apart.

    Have fun!

Wow are these parks different. Rocky Mountain visitingparks.com/RockyMountain.htm is a park known for it vistas and wildlife. It has a road that cant be missed (trail route) that goes to 12000 ft. Zion visitingparks.com/Zion.htm has a dryer climate and is know for its slot canyons and stone monoliths.

Both are absolutely spectacular but in different ways as you can see in the videos on the VisitingParks.com website. Rocky Mountain is often covered with snow this time of the year where Zion is normally open.

Why choose between them. I recommend that you experience both and in fact Visiting Parks suggests 80 parks to visit. We all visit them often. If I can help you further go to the website and click on custom tours and we will help you plan you trip.|||I think that Zions National Park is better. It has more to see, and the cliff walls in it are just brilliant. I would suggest going to Zion over Rocky.|||Rocky Horror Picture Show.

It should be fairly cold, and likely snowy. I went once in April, and it was snowing even then, but the other time I went in February and it was sunny, yet cold. Remember that there are many elevation changes in that park, and it may be a decent temperature at a lower elevation, and freezing cold higher in the mountains.
