I have booked a coach trip during the last two weeks in October, travelling from Rapid City, South Dakota Mount Rushmore - Cody - Yellowstone National Park - Jackson - Salt Lake City - Mesa Verde National Park - Grand Canyon national Park - Zion national Park - Las Vegas. I would appreciate a little info re temperatures/weather just to plan what clothing to bring. Restricted to one suitcase on flight from UK so would appreciate some advice.|||Rapid City is great, Mt Rushmore, Blackhills, Badlands, Crazy Horse Mountain ..... lots of cool things to see up there, Deadwood is popular place nearby also. Your trip sounds like a great trip.
I would plan on it being 50 to 60 degrees during the day. It can always vary so just check the 2 week forcast for that area before you leave. You can also google average temperatures rapid city sd to get an idea.|||You are going to be encountering Mountain climate in Jackson and Yellowstone. Prepare for temps as low as the mid to upper 40's. Mesa Verde is also higher elevation though not as high as the first 2 stops. In Salt Lake City the Wasatch Range lies to the South so it is subject to colder air and high winds.
Zion National Park is at a lower elevation and is also protected by Checkerboard Mesa etc so expect temps to be 10-15 degrees warmer than SLC
Grand Canyon and Vegas are going to be in the upper 60's to low 70's
Your trip will range by about 25 degrees total.|||= The jet stream, which tends to weaken in summer, begins to re-strengthen, leading to a quicker changing of weather patterns and an increased variability of temperatures. By late October and November these storm systems become strong enough to form major winter storms.
