What does this mean exactly? I want to know if i have to pay for my checked bags on American Airlines. I bought my ticket off student universe.|||American Airlines charges 15 dollars for the first checked bag, and 25 dollars for the second checked bag.

The only people exempt from these fees are high ranking airline advantage members, passengers holding a first class ticket, and active military personnel.|||online american airlines now says 25 for the first checked bag, 35 for the second.

|||This simply means the ticket has no restrictions, such as requiring the passenger to have a weekend stay or fly on specific dates. Many people do not recognize what the different fare classes mean because they are quite complicated. Basically, if you see a ticket for the same two cities a lot more expensive on the same airline, just different dates, but still economy, then it is likely a higher fare class ticket.

A full-fare ticket is also usually refundable, whereas other tickets are non-refundable. Because the full-fare tickets are quite a bit more than 'normal' tickets, I don't pay for it because I don't need to have it refundable or anything. But economy is economy, so you will have to pay for the checked bags. I think on some fare classes that are economy, when travelling internationally, some of the fees change, but domestically this is not the case.

After knowing this information, you may feel ripped off and might want to look for a cheaper ticket, but also keep in mind that sometimes on more heavily booked flights, the full-fare tickets are all that is left on the flight available. The lower cost tickets are of a lower class in the sense of its restrictions, but are still economy. So behind the scenes, full-fare tickets get you more, but in most cases, you'll not have to even think about what that offers you. It's basically just a better economy ticket, if that can be said.
